Oregon’s First National Historic Landmark District
A major factor that distinguishes the City of Jacksonville is the preservation of its historic structures and surrounding context. Jacksonville became Oregon’s first National Historic Landmark District in 1966 due to having the state’s most extensive and complete example of a late 19th century inland commercial mining community.
More About the Landmark District
Our Landmark District encompasses some 326 acres and contains 98 buildings built between 1850 and 1900 that have been preserved and maintained. Due to the City’s large National Historic Landmark district, there is a high level of review for many customary uses and situations – for both residences and businesses. So before making too many plans regarding a property you should check in with the city offices. You can start by using their website – www.jacksonvilleor.us – and look for the City Codes under the Planning Department
