Artist and Gardener is a collaborative effort- between a gardener with a love of nature, plants, flowers and animals – joined by an artist that loves to draw and paint them! In the middle is a natural love for antiques and home furnishings. The shop also represents other artists, including painters, jewelry designers, woodworkers and ceramicists.
Mark Sutter, the gardener, began his extensive career in Vacaville, California where he was groundskeeper for the “Nut Tree”, a very popular destination for travelers and locals, alike. Besides gardening, his career includes floral and interior design work. He continues to work with a core of longtime clients who rely on him for outside gardening, interior design, party and event planning and holiday decoration.
Todd Lovett, the artist, has painted his entire life in tandem with a long retail career, much of which was spent with Saks Fifth Avenue in San Francisco. In addition to having consistent watercolor painting commissions, he has a background in surface/textile design. He attended and graduated from the California School of Professional Fabric Design in Berkeley, California. After graduation, Todd taught the school’s watercolor workshop for several years and also freelanced for a wallpaper company that used two of his projects for period production wallpaper for Steven Spielberg’s movie, “Lincoln”. Today, he also licenses artwork for products ranging from area rugs, plates, tile vignettes to puzzles.

Daisy Creek Vineyard, named for the meandering stream which flows through the property from its source high in the mineral-rich Siskiyou Mountains to its end in the Rogue River, is located on the eastern boundary of the historic gold rush town of Jacksonville, Oregon. Suffused with history, the vineyard itself surrounds and spans the remnants of a slurry mine where turn of the century prospectors sifted the sands and gravels of Daisy Creek looking for gold. Today, these sands, rocks, gravels and rich amalgam of minerals swept down from the mountains over millenia with them comprise treasure of a different kind, the unique soil which nurtures our vines and makes instantly recognizable the wines produced from the Daisy Creek Vineyard.

Dos Mariposas Vineyards and Lavender Farm, which opened its doors in October 2022, is a multi-generational family farm that is lovingly tended to by everyone, including the littlest helpers. Dos Mariposas, which means two butterflies in Spanish, was named for the girls, Amelia and Adeline, budding farmers who love to greet guests in the tasting room and assist with the lavender harvest. Newest addition, Finley, who joined the family in 2020, is the unofficial brix tester, eating his way through the vineyard when grapes are ripe!

This venue has so much to offer! The grounds feature beautiful vineyards, a multi-color lavender field, a large pond teeming with wildlife, a giant sandbox, an onsite guesthouse, and stunning mountain views. The tasting room itself is spacious, yet cozy, with a wood-burning fireplace inside and glass garage doors that open to the wrap-around patio overlooking the pond and vineyards. A high-end sound system and spacious dance floor have made Dos Mariposas a favorite live music destination and you can catch performances by local musicians most weekends.

The first wines were produced from an existing block of cabernet sauvignon and pinot noir. Visitors this year will discover an expanded wine selection featuring new estate wines, including unique varietals pinotage and chenin blanc, as well as new sparkling options. Dos Mariposas also offers a limited release hard apple/pear cider made from a blend of estate-grown fruit. The menu includes other drink and food options, highlighted by lavender lemonade and a lavender, rosemary, and honey butter board. With its casual atmosphere and family-friendly vibe, the owners have created a space that is warm and welcoming. Se habla (un poquito de) español.
