Jacksonville Itinerary For the Outdoorsperson

There is something about being outside – breathing in wonderfully fresh air, feeling the sun on your skin and taking in the scenery – that brings you back to the simple pleasures of your childhood. With the Woodland Trails and Forest Park right here, plus the surrounding region that is ideal for mountain biking, road biking, all levels of hiking, river rafting, skiing and fishing, you can take in the scenery, learn some history and recapture the freedom of being an 8 year old.

  • DAY 1 – MORNING

Start Your Day on the Woodland Trails

20 miles of trails right in town means you can spend the morning or nearly the entire day enjoying the trails and peering into our local history. The narrative signs scattered along the Jacksonville Woodland Trails highlight the areas gold mining days – both in the 1800’s and during the Depression. There is also information on the local flora for those with a botanical bent.

  • DAY 1 – AFTERNOON

End Your Day with a Narrated Trolley Tour

    Just like Disneyland…..almost!

Take a load off and enjoy a 45-minute historic trolley ride around town. Learn interesting facts of interest about Jacksonville, important people that have visited our town, and a few fun tidbits to take home and share with family and friends.

  • DAY 2 – MORNING

    Explore Forest Park at Dawn

Head out of town just barely a mile to get to the turn off for Jacksonville’s newly established Forest Park. Hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding are all welcome on these trails. Incredible views and steeper terrain make for very rewarding time.

  • DAY 2 – AFTERNOON

    Hit The Rogue River

During the summer season going rafting or jet-boating is another great way to enjoy the outdoors and to see nature  from a very different perspective – on the river. Rogue Jet Boat Adventures is the only touring company with access to the most beautiful, natural, untouched sections of the upper Rogue River. You will enjoy unparalleled views of the magnificent Table Rocks, favorite Rogue River fishing outpost of Theodore Roosevelt, Indigo Creek multimillion-dollar homes and the homestead fishing getaway retreat for Ginger Rogers, Clark Gable, and other well-known celebrities.

If rafting is more your thing, Indigo Creek Outfitters offers half day and full day excursions on the Rogue and Upper Klamath rivers. They also offer a Table Rocks Float Trip for those a little less adventure-oriented. The company is based out of Ashland but is a convenient option for Jacksonville.
